Award Winning Photography Massasoit Art Festival 2017 & 2018
Richard Mulcahy, Photography jurer at the Massasoit Art Festival, described my Shepard's Falls photograph as follows: "In photography we most often seek to convey what we are experiencing versus what we are just seeing. In this image, the artists wisely understood the drama of twilight, and the mystery of moving water. The dreamlike quality of his scene is no accident. To capture this affect, he uses a slow shutter speed, which also requires dim lighting to get the proper exposure, and also a tripod to avoid camera shake. The technical qualities of the image are excellent, sharply focused, exposed properly, pleasing warm colors, and good dynamic range from darks to light. The creative qualities are also excellent. The image conveys the mood and emotion we may experience in those moments between night and day. Enchanting misty waters flow across bold repeating patterns of the dam, drawing us in, and then we find evening lit houses, suggesting people within, in an intriguing surreal setting."
